1. It drives sales
It’s no secret that the internet is dominating sales and marketing, so it makes sense that online advertising should be the way forward for businesses. Digital advertising includes display ads (including banner ads), mobile ads, and video ads, all of which help increase the ROI of a business. The number one plus when it comes to advertising online is its success in increasing sales. Approximately 95% of Google’s revenue comes from digital and online advertising, so it’s safe to say that advertising online is the way forward thanks to the advancement of digital and social selling. Mobile advertising is the driving force of growth in digital advertising, with $43.6 billion expected to be spent in 2016 in the U.S. alone. Due to the change in the buyer journey, it’s evident that the internet is the dominant platform for making purchase decisions. So it makes sense that digital advertising is working to increase sales!
2. It’s effective across the buyer journey
With the change in the buyer journey, as I’ve just mentioned, digital advertising is successful from the beginning to the end. So it helps business owners in knowing that their customer is aware of their business throughout the buying process. At the awareness stage of the buyer’s journey advertising is key, because without it, the buyer is oblivious to the product or service the business is offering. At the research stage, the buyer is using the internet to learn more, so digital advertising is still playing a huge role. And at the final decision-making stage, the buyer is still online. So no matter what stage the buyer is at, digital and online advertising continues to be effective!
3. It’s more effective than traditional mainstream media
As there are so many prospects using the internet on a regular (if not daily) basis, the effectiveness of online advertising is a lot more than that of traditional media. It’s estimated that in 2017, $72.01 billion will be spent on TV advertising, while $77.37 billion will be spent on digital advertising. The popularity of online consumer culture is rapidly overtaking the success of TV advertising, leaving plenty of room for success in digital advertising. Digital advertising has the ability to target audiences, something TV advertising often fails at. It’s also a lot easier to view analytical data and demographics relating to your customers than TV advertising. Despite the mainstream and traditional media’s reluctance to accept the internet as a viable source of quality content, it’s fast becoming an effective means for advertising to targeted audiences!
4. It reaches a wider audience
Digital advertising has a global reach, meaning that you have a massive amount of prospecting opportunities compared with TV advertising. The more potential customers you reach, the more likely you are to generate leads! You’re going to reach millions of people with one small banner ad in comparison to a 30-second-long TV ad reaching only a few thousand. It’s also a lot easier to reach a targeted audience online than it is on television. This makes the ads for your business are more niche to a certain demographic, or to a group of people with interests that correlate to your product or service. While TV does this to an extent, the internet is a lot more specific.
5. It’s cost efficient
Not only is online advertising more effective than advertising on traditional media, it’s also cheaper. Budgets for television commercials are evidently going to be more expensive than a small online advertisement. Services such as Google AdWords can be a cheap way to create tailored online advertisements for your business as you can choose your own budget. You can manage your bidding manually or allow AdWords to automatically manage it. So there are no reasons not to take advantage of digital advertising… it’s effective, cheap, and reaches potential customers all over the world.
